Aledo, Texas (April 21, 2025) – A new rebate program will reward Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC) members who take steps towards energy efficiency in their homes, without adding a single penny to their electric bills.
As part of TCEC’s Energy Efficiency Rebate Pilot Program, the Cooperative has allocated $250,000 for rebates consisting of:
- A $50 credit for the purchase of an Energy Star appliance made January 1, 2025, or later (one rebate per location)
- A $75 credit for completing an HVAC tune-up with a certified technician January 1, 2025, or later (one rebate per location)
The program is completely paid for using unclaimed funds, such as capital credit checks, that have not been cashed in three years. Texas law permits electric cooperatives to use a portion of these funds for limited purposes such as energy efficiency. These dollars would go to the state's general funds if TCEC did not repurpose them and reinvest the funds back into the local community.
“This program is truly a win-win for TCEC members,” said Andrea McCleese, Sr. Vice President of Engagement and Solutions. “Energy-efficient appliances and tune-ups can lead to long-term savings by making homes more efficient. At the same time, members receive bill credits—with no cost to them, as the program is funded through unclaimed capital credit funds rather than member subsidization. It’s another way TCEC is delivering on its promise to provide meaningful value and improved service to members.”
Rebate funds are limited and will end for the year once all available funds are depleted. Visit tcectexas.com/energy-efficiency-rebates for application details.
