- There have been increases in the cost of doing business, including materials and contractor labor, that are impacting the entire construction industry.
- This helps in our efforts to stop taking out additional debt and start paying down the line of credit, which is part of the debt reduction strategy and allows for decreases in interest expenses for members.
- This also helps ensure TCEC continues to meet loan covenants with external lenders.
- $40 million in budget cuts last year
- The elimination of construction credits to new members
- Selling assets, including the Aledo headquarters
- Cost savings initiatives such as changes in material suppliers, the cutting of contractors and bringing more work in-house, and a switch in health insurance providers
- Refinancing three loans – or tranches – of the Winter Storm Uri debt last fall, saving the cooperative millions of dollars in interest.
- The power supply agreement, which eliminates the risk that Tri-County was exposed to for market price volatility
- There will be no change to the customer charge, per kilowatt hour energy rate, or the Brazos Rider for any rate class.
- Under the previous structure: the 14.425 cent per kilowatt hour rate consisted of:
- 12 cents in base power cost charges and 2.425 cents in distribution charges.
- Beginning with bills mailed in April 2025, the 14.425 center per kilowatt hour rate will consist of:
- 10.5 cents in base power cost and 3.925 cents in distribution charges.
- The increase in the distribution component, the rate adjustment method with the least impact on members, increases Tri-County’s revenue.
- The power cost recovery factor will also be adjusted (PCRF). In March, the PCRF credit is 2.000 cents. In April, the PCRF credit will be .5 cents. This is where you may see an increase in your bill from 2024, depending on your energy usage.
- In 2025, the amount of the credit will be, on average, 1.5 cents lower than 2024 credits.
- This can continue in 2025 because Tri-County no longer needs to build a large PCRF reserve to shield members from ERCOT price volatility.
- The new power supply agreement shields members from unpredictable wholesale market price fluctuations for the next five years.
- The March edition of Current Conversations, included tools to help you manage your energy costs, such as tips from Energy Star on heating and cooling more efficiently.
- On the MyTriCountyTX online member portal and mobile app, members can sign up for usage alerts, check out the usage tracking tool that can be used to compare daily usage to the day’s temperature down and view unbilled energy usage for upcoming bills.
- Programs like Budget Billing and Prepaid Billing may help members budget their energy dollars.
