The Brazos Electric Ratepayer Hardship Fund is designed to assist low-income residential TCEC and other cooperative members. The fund provides bill credits to help offset the additional charges incurred by members after Winter Storm Uri in 2021.
Please note that the Hardship Fund credits will only cover a portion of charges directly related to Winter Storm Uri (The Brazos Rider) and credit amounts will vary based on your energy usage.
Eligibility Requirements
If you are a TCEC member, you may be eligible for assistance if you meet one of the following criteria:
- You or someone in your household currently participates in programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
- If your household income is below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level based on the 2024 Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Required Documentation for Application
To apply, you’ll need to provide the following:
- A recent electric bill that includes
- Service address
- Account number
- Account holder's name
- Proof of participation in a qualifying program such as:
- Medicaid Notice of Case Action Letter (from the Texas Department of Health & Human Services)
- SNAP (Food Stamps) Notice of Case Action Letter
- SSI Award Letter
- TANF Award Letter
OR
- Proof of household income, which could include:
- Recent pay stubs from all employers for the last 2 months for all household members
- Your most recent signed tax return or Form 8879 for electronic filing
- A signed letter from employers detailing your wages
- Documentation of social security income
- Recent unemployment forms showing eligibility dates
- Copies of two most recent unemployment checks
- A recent bank statement showing direct deposit of income (e.g., SSI, Social Security payments, pension, or annuity)
